BUSINESS & INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT

The Business and Information Technology program provides all students with an opportunity to gain advanced business skills. Students who select a Business and Information Technology program will graduate with competencies required by business. They will also acquire the competencies necessary for acceptance to a post-secondary institution. The Business and Information Technology program embraces the philosophy that all students should be taught at a college preparatory level and that all students should be given the support needed to succeed.



Accounting I College Prep, Honors E#12104 5 credits

This course will provide students with an introduction to basic fundamental accounting principles.

Students will learn how to keep business records, how to develop financial statements and accounting terminology using manual and computerized systems. Students use real world business simulations to reinforce accounting concepts. The accelerated, honors-level course is designed for the college-bound student who plans to major in business.

Accounting II College Prep, Honors E#12104 5 credits

This course develops the skills of analyzing and interpreting accounting and financial records, departmental and payroll accounting and accounting for a corporation, and includes cost accounting. Computerized accounting is utilized. The accelerated, honors-level course is designed for the college-bound student who plans to major in Business and includes cost accounting periods 5 & 6 and part time.

PREREQUISITE: ACCOUNTING I OR EXEMPTION GRANTED BY CTE DIRECTOR



Personal Finance E#22210 2.5 credits

Personal Finance will focus on the skills necessary to successfully navigate a currently complex economic world. Following are the topics that constitute the major thrust of the course: taxes; checking accounts; savings accounts; college planning; understanding and managing credit; investments; insurance; budgeting; career planning.



Computer Applications E#10004 2.5 credits

This is a project-based course where students gain valuable experience and skills needed to successfullyuse and navigate computer applications emphasizing Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Forms. Students will learn how to use available tools such as Email, Calendar, Drive, and Classroom using their cpsge.org accounts. Skills gained in this course will make the student more productive in all classes.



Entrepreneurship I E#12053 2.5 credits

This course examines all the aspects of owning a business including the finance, marketing, management, and legal ownership of a business. Each student will have real life experience with owning a small business by participating in real world applications. Students will have the opportunity to develop, produce, and market products through analyzing pricing, defining the target market, collecting data, and evaluating trends in the marketplace.

Entrepreneurship II E#12053 2.5 credits

The complete development of a Business Plan and application of the plan is the focus. Students are required to enter a Business Plan competition(s) where they will be matched up against other entrepreneurs. Specific attention is paid to management techniques, financial analysis, consumer & market analysis, and gaining a competitive advantage. Development of proper presentation skills through the use of technology and public speaking are also addressed. Students will be given guidance, assigned projects, and information on the business plan competition requirements.

Management & Leadership E#12052 2.5 credits

At the core of this class are the four management functions (planning, organizing, leading, and controlling) where all functions are examined closely. Specific areas of management covered include operations & human resource management, organizational behavior, and leadership. Current business articles related to management and leadership are examined and students are required to provide a response to the situation. Communication skills are also addressed and assessed because of their importance towards effective management.

Marketing E#12166 2.5 credits

This course will allow students to explore the dynamic world of marketing. Students will be introduced to the 4 P’s of marketing (Product, Price, Promotion, Place) and all they involve. Along with how Marketing is constantly changing and modifying through the use of technology and Social Media Platforms. Students will learn how businesses use these platforms as a way to enhance the marketing of products and businesses.

Sports & Event Management E#12052 2.5 credits

Students will master the competencies necessary to enter the growing field of sports management and sports event management. The course will cover both industry structures as well as application of management principles. This course is recommended for students interested in careers in sports management.
