BUSINESS & INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT
The Business and Information Technology program provides all students with an opportunity to gain advanced business skills. Students who select a Business and Information Technology program will graduate will competencies required by business. They will also acquire the competencies necessary for acceptance to a post-secondary institution. The Business and Information Technology program embraces the philosophy that all students should be taught at a college preparatory level and that all students should be given the support needed to succeed.

This course is designed to introduce students to financial mathematics content and terminology useful in advanced business courses. The course focuses on problem-solving and applying mathematics to business activities including return of investment, comparison of company performance, and statistical data for business applications. Use of fundamental arithmetic tools (fractions, decimals, ratios, percentages, interest and taxes) as they apply to algebra and geometry. QuickBooks Pro is one of the most widely used small business accounting software programs on the market. This program emphasizes accounting principles, inventory and management accounting. In the class, students will keep track of income and expenses, create many types of reports, bank account reconciliation, accounts payable and receivable, invoicing, inventory and skills needed to perform a variety of accounting applications with emphasis on computer technology as applied in today’s modern office. Students will develop “10 key” keyboarding skills. This course examines all the aspects of business including the finance, marketing, management and legal ownership of a business. Each aspect of business is studied, discussed and compared to the small business owner. Development of proper presentation skills through the use of technology and public speaking are also addressed.
