HORTICULTURE 1(3 per day)

Prerequisite: Successful completion of Exploratory program--Others with approval of Career & Technical Education Director
First year students will study plant growth development, propagation by seeds and cuttings, growing factors, soil and materials, greenhouse bedding crops and some floral design. Basic carpentry and hand tool proficiency as related to the turf and landscape fields will also be addressed. Safety procedures, as they relate to the operation of equipment and machinery appropriate to the trade are an integral part of this course of study. Meets Academic Expectations 1,2,3,4 & 5
HORTICULTURE 2 (3 per day)

Prerequisite: Horticulture 1--Others with approval of Career & Technical Education Director
Students will expand upon the skills acquired in their first year and study the nature of plant problems and controls. Further study involves irrigation pruning landscaping, landscape design and landscape plant identification and procedures. Meets Academic Expectations 1,2,3,4 & 5
HORTICULTURE 3 (3 per day)

Prerequisite: Horticulture 2--Others with approval of Career & Technical Education Director
In the third year of this course of study, emphasis will be placed on actual installations of landscape designs, turf methods, trouble shooting problems of turf pesticides and their use. Students will work in the greenhouse, classroom and at various work sites. Meets Academic Expectations 1,2,3,4 & 5
HORTICULTURE CO-OP

Prerequisite: Grade 12 - Student “See eligibility requirements – Page #35”
This program is designed to provide seniors with an opportunity to combine daily school instruction with on-the-job training. Students, who are paid for their work, are covered by Workman's Compensation Insurance. Students earn course credits and gain invaluable work experience. Cooperative Education also provides the students with an opportunity to become more self confident, plan career goals, and gain a better understanding of their academic and related career and technical course work.
